Self-Discovery through Memoir
There is a special connection between what you write and what you remember. The connection actually happens in the spatial and the verbal part of your brain, which is how you make sense of what you write. Writing can help you make sense of your life.
Memory and language are intrinsically connected; that is why we cannot remember moments from when we were pre-verbal. We all know that writing things down helps us to remember them; well, the act of writing can also access parts of your memory that you’ve forgotten. Expressive writing helps people simplify and organize fragmented memories.
While I can certainly do a one-time session, for this area I strongly recommend a minimum of a 6-week session. In a six-week series we can build on participants process in this manner:
- Discover the lens(es) through we which we will look at our lives.
- Discover ourselves as a character and learn how to write honestly and compassionately.
- Make sense of our lives most impacting events.
- Draw correlations between repeated/patterned events.
- More fully understand the actions of others
- More fully understand ourselves
